Al Morelli appointed to lean manufacturing advisory group
(IIE) Institute of Industrial Engineers - Orange County, former president Al Morelli has been invited to join the Advisory Committee on Lean Manufacturing , a group created by the Orange County Manufacturing Council , to solicit advise and recommendations from employers, labor organizations and the public. The council requested Morelli to serve as representative of the employer sector. The group is composed of members, who are appointed to advise the manufacturing community on policies and issues related to Orange county manufacturing, workforce training, measures for improving productivity and strategies for competing in the global economy. In addition, Al Morelli is currently an Industry Professor at the University Southern California-Industrial and System Engineering Department.

The successful engineer will interact with customers, estimate cost, evaluate design requirement, prepare quotations and enter orders. This individual will report directly to the President while providing various communications to clients including interpretation of quotations, status reports and delivery schedule. The company is a leader in the metal stamping and fabricated metal components industry. Presses range from 35 to 880-tons with large-beds, with a full in-house tool & die shop and ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Job Description

� The candidate will be responsible for servicing the current customer base while developing leads and getting new business. The job will require cold calling and working trade shows.
� Solicit; obtain data on new business developments and products.
� Assist customers regarding design issues. Be technically proficient to support customer inquires related to tooling and product specifications.
� Execute customer orders
� Liaison between customer and shop
� Maintain activity reports and records of order status and customer sales activity.
� Maintain weekly call activity plan and monthly product forecast.

Requirements

� Bachelor�s Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
� 2+ years related sales experience
� Application / design experience
� Metal Stamping and Fabrication experience is a plus.
� Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications and product drawing.
� Excellent verbal and written communication skills (e.g. to write reports and present information to customers)

Plans utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations: Studies functional departments, efficiency charts, and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of workers and work units and to identify areas of improvement. Establishes work measurement programs (incentive wages) and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization. Analyzes work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data, such as production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities, such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and purchase of equipment. Confers with management and engineering/maintenance staff to implement plans and recommendations.

Sample Duties and Responsibilities:

� Be an effective communication and interpersonal relationships with employees at all levels. Bilingual-Spanish- Language skills are essential.
� Assist and provide information as needed to support the quoting process to insure that all costs are accurate and current.
� Line Planning Sheets � Work with production supervisors, line leads, and mechanics to develop most efficient layout of equipment and personnel for each job. Record this information on the line planning sheets via a rough sketch and enter on an Excel spreadsheet. Manage and report productivity related data for each assembly line and / or department.
� Enter routing information for all new products including production line selection, run speed, crew size, pallet pattern, labeling information, quality issues, etc. This may involve copying information from a similar product or talking with the Production Supervisors. Update routing information for each WO. Establish and maintain a feedback loop between production and management so changes get documented and completed in a timely fashion.

� Print necessary reports and put into analysis spreadsheets. This includes daily production results and downtime. Assist in re-tooling management program. Use statistical tools and problem solving skills to discover root causes and propose solutions to reducing downtime on the production floor.
� Attend New Product Reviews (NPR) to examine new design for production and labor standards.
� Gather labor and performance data for cost justification for equipment purchases.
� Gather data for validation of new equipment purchases or to establish process capability using various analytical methods.
� Support Purchasing to evaluate equipments and materials from vendors as needed.

Educational Requirements:
� Computer Skills with Auto CAD experience
� Knowledge of production assembly
� (Desirable)- Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering.
